Books- what would we do without them. I know my life would be quite dull without reading. But there’s good news; I have 4 reasons why you should read a book today.
Reading has never been easier and fulfilling as it is now. There hasn’t been a better time to determine why you should read a book like now. Gone are the days when the right books were only for those that had the means, now you can find just about any book you need across bookstores and libraries.
If you are feeling lazy, all you have to do is type your book on Google, and you get enough options to choose from. Life could not be better.
I know someone reading this somewhere, probably just rolled their eyes because they don’t see what the fuss is about. It’s true that as humans, we all have different interests and hobbies, but I know I speak for all book readers when I say that non-readers have no idea what they are missing out on.
To be candid, I do not see what non-readers do with all that free time, and I don’t want to hear pay bills and all other adult stuff because I do all that, and I still find time to read.
Trust me, when I say if you knew the benefits of reading, you wouldn’t need anyone to remind you why you should read a book this very minute.
You don’t even have to be a heavy reader to know that, apart from reading for pleasure, books have a lot of benefits for the everyday person. I know.
I should probably state what those benefits are before I go about castigating people for not reading because, after all, what you don’t know does hurt, and if you don’t see why you should read a book, you probably wouldn’t.
Reasons why you should read a book today
So, whether you’re trying to convince yourself why you should read a book this weekend or you don’t see the point at all, and you’re just reading this because you don’t have anything else to do, There are several benefits to reading but here are 4 reasons why you should read a book today.
Entertaining Escape from Reality
The first reason that influences why you should read is none other than entertainment. Nobody’s life is exciting 24/7. We all want it, but unfortunately, we all have obligations, some of which may be boring.
So boring in fact that all you want to do is get on your broom, fly off somewhere or compete in the next quidditch competition, but you can’t. Guess who can, though- Harry potter.
Improves Focus and Memory Retention
Reading stimulates the brain, especially the parts that are responsible for memory and attention. Think of reading as a mental exercise, and the more you flex your brain muscles, the more they expand beyond their limits.
If this isn’t a good enough answer to why you should read more often, I honestly don’t know what is.
Broadens the mind
A lot of times, we tend to ego or ethnocentric. Books avail us with the opportunity to step out of our own experience, take a walk in other people’s shoes, and appreciate life from a different perspective.
Ever wondered what its like in the minds of people from other cultures, why and how they do things differently, or how each person has different attributes and interests, that’s how exactly why you should read a book today.
Contributes to Educational Knowledge
Apart from the entertaining aspects of reading, books have always been the go-to when it comes to learning. It doesn’t matter what genre you’re looking for; whether its family, psychology, class structure, racism, even mental illness, chances are- what you seek has been written extensively by someone.
So, there you have it, my favourite reasons for reading, and why you should read a book whenever you get a chance to.
Books are the hubs of information, into those brown pages, in those letters lies stories and feelings unlike anything in the world. It has cemented its place in society as an ageless form of information and entertainment.
